What "hidden" means to us — and why summer routes are half our catalog
A place makes our list when it has something you can't get closer to a city. A 700-year-old alley with one tea house and no sign on the door. A grassland lake at 3,500m where the only light at night is the Milky Way. A kiln village where the potter still fires wood the way his family has since the Ming. We don't put a spot on the site until someone from our team has been there — usually twice — and can tell you which month the light is best and which homestay actually feeds you well. That's what goes into a single itinerary.

Our summer routes exist because of one practical fact: July and August in most of China is brutal. So we send people up. Lushan's pine ridges sit at 1,100m. Kanas in July averages 18°C at dawn — bring a jacket. The lakes near Shangri-La sit above 3,200m. Moganshan's bamboo valleys keep the old stone villas around 26°C even when Shanghai hits 38° down the road. We pick these because you can walk around at noon without overheating — not just because they photograph well, though they do.

Chinamaxxing — how we get you inside Chinese culture instead of just pointing at it
The word started as a joke between our team and a repeat traveler from Berlin — he said each trip made him "level up" at being Chinese, so we called it Chinamaxxing. It's not a philosophy. It's the stuff that happens when you're not in a rush: the grandmother in Lanzhou who grabs your hands and shows you why the dough has to rest forty minutes, not thirty.
